Woot so laste it's useless [Mar. 28th, 2009|10:12 am]
Game night time again, let’s celebrate end of spring break. I’m making vegetarian and meat lasagna. Food will be ready to eat around 5:30 or 6 on Saturday March 28th. Feel free to show up as early as 4, especially if you have kids, then they can have some play time before dinner. I will have a couple homebrews on tap and the plan is for first major board game will start at ~7 (Settlers or Ticket to ride). Bring games you want to play. I have rearranged furniture so it should be possible to run 3 tables and depending on who RSVP's it will significantly alter what and how much board gaming is done. So, please let me know if you will attend, the more the merrier.

Sorry the post here is so late. I forgot to put on LJ.

My mom who runs an organic farm has being periodically blogging about her farm. I thought people might be interested in it. She just had an Amish couple move in with her to help out with some of the farming chores. Hopefully she will increase her blogging and provide more updates. She is currently selling Community support agriculture (CSA) shares for this year. You can find more information about her CSA shares on her Local harvest page. Her farm also has a website but since I'm a bad son it's not up to date.

I am a pickup site for her CSA shares in Kent so order 1 today and support small farms!

Game Night [Jan. 27th, 2009|10:19 am]
It's been a while since I've had a game night. Planning on having one Saturday the 7th. Serving chili vegetarian, mild, and hot. It will be Cincinnati style since some kids just are not happy with out plain spaghetti to eat. Chili should be hot and ready to eat from 5:30 to 7:30. My plan is to have kids type people show up around 4 for predinner playtime. It's reasonable likely we will have at least 2 games going on at the same time. First major board game will start at ~7 so if that's what your looking for show around then. Bring games you want to play. I have rearranged furniture so it should be possible to run 3 tables and depending on who RSVP's it will significantly alter what and how much board gaming is done. So, please let me know if you will attend, the more the merrier.

My goal with this party is to have two phases and slowly at bedtime for the kids switch from kid birthday party craziness to more of a dinner party/board game atmosphere.

WoW [Dec. 8th, 2008|11:12 am]
My World of Warcraft guild is full of fail and losing members. I'm kinda the second in command. It's fun to run a sinking ship and pretend nothing is wrong/happening. Life goes on. My son turns 9 this week! My grandfather turned 80 last week. It has been a good week. My son won his first wrestling match of the season in 30 seconds with a pin. I am proud of him. School :( lawyers :( still don't know what I'm gonna do about that.

Pets [Dec. 4th, 2008|09:39 am]
[Current Mood | sad]

My son's lizard "Lizz" died yesterday during the night. He is pretty upset. It's not the first pet that has died but it's his first pet :(

He wants to get another lizard in a while and we buried it outside his window at his mom's house. Kinda sad. Gwen is acting more upset than he was for attention but he is pretty bummed. We also printed out a nice picture of Lizz to frame and are looking at getting some kind of pet gravestone.

Sad

WotLK [Nov. 14th, 2008|06:57 pm]
Is fun. It's mostly more of the same. But the same WoW was kind of good. Best new feature is probably the vehicle system. It works pretty well and is very versatile. It's always fun to fly a bi-plane or shoot at stuff. Blizzard does a pretty good job.

WoW [Oct. 23rd, 2008|08:41 am]
Woot beat the game!!

My guild finished all current Raiding content with three weeks to spare before more is released :)

I have a Apple Power mac 7500/100 on my desk that I need to recover data from. Old and scary. It won't talk with anything modern. I can't even get software installed on it since Stuffit expander doesn't have a version old enough to work on OS 7. Hopefully I can use an old Zip drive to copy data off.

Drinking is fun!

Anyone gonna be out and about in Kent for Halloween?

Food [Oct. 6th, 2008|10:50 am]
Another successful game night. Had a nice mix of my kids friends and adults. Got a game of Ticket to Ride in which is progress from last game night which just had a giant horde of kids running around for a couple hours. Everyone was to tired from drinking on Friday night to get another game in so no 2am settlers game. My son really wanted to play Settlers of Catan :(

I learned about games.asobrain.com which is a java based totally kick ass online version of settlers and a couple other games. Without all the setup/board hassle it only takes 30-60m to play settlers. It rocks.

I'll do another game night next month after Halloween party recovery.

I'm looking for food suggestions for next game night. I've made chili, beef stew, lasagna, and pizza.

Suggestions need to contain a easy vegetarian version, can be a lot of work, but the cooking needs to doable before hand so I can participate instead of cook once people arrive. (IE pizza was bad, since you had to make the pizza after guests arrived.)

Game Night [Sep. 29th, 2008|03:40 pm]
I'm planning a game night for Saturday October 4th. Lasagna for dinner. Should be a lot like last time (many kids) but hopefully after kids are tired and have to go to bed we can play some games. At least some of the older kids will be interested in doing easier games such as Ticket to Ride.

Let me know if you want more info and if you will be coming.

Not about WoW [Sep. 19th, 2008|09:00 am]

I have no idea what I'm going to play next. It won't be WAR and I still don't have a strong desire to play more batmud. Maybe I'll buy some console games and play them or use my WiFit and get less fat.

Now on to some interesting things.

It's talk like a pirate day!!

Now go plunder and investment bank!

This blog is relatively scary but not all the link/verifiable. But still seems like an interesting first hand read.
The Epicurean Dealmaker

This blog is very interesting and updated often. The writer seems to know what he is talking about and stuff.
The Big Picture

Most of you probably already look at this but it's still cool. Much better election tracking than most places and it's not about the economy
Five Thirty Eight

Fun MMORG blog, this is who suggested Wizard 101 which my son really likes and is playing a lot right now. It's even age appropriate!
Tobold's MMORPG Blog

Anyone else scared about the economy? What are you reading?

Fun [Sep. 12th, 2008|09:51 am]
My son is pretty much done with WoW and has moved on to other games (good thing) he is playing Wizard101 which is a kid focused Harry Potter clone thingy. Only downside to it is no Mac client and it won't run under cedega.

I am about done with WoW. Raiding is fun but it's to much work to hold a guild together and we are mostly not skilled enough for the content we are attempting. It kinda sucks and makes the game no fun. We still have to farm old stuff a lot which is boring. I'm a little tired of WoW.

Game Night [Sep. 2nd, 2008|10:46 am]
So much for posting more.

But I am planning to have a game night this Saturday. Same as normal. Gonna throw together some chili and probably grill something. Food should be ready about 6. I'll probably have more kids around but that just means more Wii.

Argh [Jul. 28th, 2008|08:19 am]
Sleep is so important.
I didn't get 3 hours last night :(
kids + bad parenting + to much WoW = no sleep for me.

Had an Officer's meeting after WoW raid, so it was 1:30 before sleep time. Gwen had a nightmare or something and woke me up at 2:00 am and because I didn't handle it well (and wouldn't let her sleep in my bed) she kept us up until 4:30 or so. Suck, but I got to work without falling asleep at the wheel. Now I will fall asleep at my desk.

guild leadership [Jul. 23rd, 2008|10:55 am]
My World of Warcraft guild has been undergoing an extended period of stress. We have a number of long term players leaving including the guild leader due to being tired of not having a life. Plus many of the new players are not as interested in pushing new content as they are in killing the same old stuff to get gear. Plus summer is vacation time. Right now the only raids we are fielding are farm stuff. It kinda sucks, but I understand why it's happening.

Oh well lawyers are expensive.

blogs are scary [Jul. 16th, 2008|06:45 pm]
Blogs are scary things. You type but have no idea who is reading. Sure you can restrict them to friends but it's not the same thing. I also worry about things I shouldn't. Like if the picture from my blog will be presented as evidence by my x-wife :)

Lately lots of my friends have been lamenting/commenting on how few friends they have. I think this is a problem with the internet. I read a lot of people's blogs but I don't comment on them. So they have no idea how much I know about their life which is very odd, for social interaction. I don't know who read what and so then end result is a very new social dynamic. In that for people who blog a lot you really know a lot about them without them knowing anything about you or what you know about them. It's like TV characters being real people. Odd stuff.

Friends are hard to classify and very few internet people are good at maintaining friendships in a normal way and I think the "new" way doesn't really fulfill human social needs very well.

hmm tired of writing. But and writing helps.
